Should non-smokers get extra days off?
Think about all the time smokers spend running out of work for a “smoke break.” What do non-smokers get? Time inside the office, working.
According to The Telegraph a Japanese marketing firm is offering non-smokers six extra days of paid vacation per year! It’s meant to compensate them for the 15 minutes a day used by smokers to get their nic fix. The idea came from an employee suggestion box (people actually read those?) the CEO of Piala Inc. saw the comment and agreed.
A recent study by Health Canada shows smoking costs employers around $2500 a year in time off, insurance and decreased productivity
Would bonus days off be enough incentive for smokers to quit? It’s not easy, especially when celebrities make it look so cool
Do you ever feel pressured to smoke because your co-workers do? There was even a Friends episode where Rachel takes up smoking at work just to feel like part of the team
If you’re trying to quit there’s an Ontario Help Line – hang in there!
