Remember in the mid to late 2000’s when you’d go to a party only to find a group of people standing around a TV playing “Guitar Hero” or “Rock Band?”
It was the ABSOLUTE WORST.
It wasn’t a party, it was two people playing a game while the rest of us stood around awkwardly, staring at the screen and thinking about setting a fire just to get out of there.
Now “E-Sports,” aka video games, could be at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Paris Olympic committee is in talks with the IOC, whose president Thomas Bach says “We are not yet 100% clear whether eSports is really sport, with regard to physical activity and what it needs to be considered sport,” but it does achieve a “high engagement from the youth”
They’ll be included in the 2022 Asian Games in China, they say their decision reflects “the rapid development and popularity of this new form of sports participation among the youth.”
Okay, The Youth might be interested in playing video games, but does anyone want to watch other people playing video games?
Here’s a short list of “sports” that would be better for spectators:
Duck Hunt Dog Wrestling
Unless there’s some physical activity involved, “E-Sports” are NOT SPORTS so this whole idea should go DOWN THE DRAIN.
