You might want to think twice about setting a robotic vacuum loose in your house.
Turns out the Roomba is doing more than just cleaning – it’s mapping your rooms and collecting personal information about the dimensions of your home.
All robo-vacs use infrared or laser sensors to find their way around your home, but in 2015 iRobot added a camera and new sensors with map building software.
According to iRobot’s Chief Executive Colin Angle they’re working on a deal to sell that information to companies like Google, Apple and Amazon.
So what does it mean? You’ll probably see more targeted ads on your devices – if Roomba detects an open space where you have room for a new sofa or big screen tv, guess what? TV and sofa ads.
Now here’s a video of cats riding vacuums.
