We’re 46th! We’re 46th! Not exactly a chant you’d march through the streets with, is it?
In MoneySense Magazine’s new ranking of the best places to live in Canada, Kingston is 46th.
If you look at the “Best of Ontario” then Kingston is 19th place, which is… better?
So what makes cities like Ottawa and Burlington better than us?
We lose in a few areas – our unemployment rate is a bit higher than Ottawa’s at 5.3%, and our median household income is $20,000 less at $71,000 a year.
As far as safety goes, they break it down to “number of crimes reported per 100,000 residents” – Burlington’s is 2088, Ottawa’s is 3635, ours is 5666! Are we the crime capital of Eastern Ontario?
No, that’s Cornwall. Their number of crimes is 7,151.
So if you want a glass-half-full happy ending, and something we can put on our welcome signs, how about “Kingston – At Least we’re not Cornwall.”
