I knew it would happen sooner or later, I just didn’t know who would be the first to do it. Looks like the award goes to M-T-V!
M-T-V is changing things up at the annual Awards Show, May 7th in L.A. There will not be separate awards for male and female actors. Instead, there will be an award for best actor…..that’s it.
Do you think it’s time to do away with gender-specific categories at awards ceremonies? Should there be only one best actor instead of best actor and best actress?
I think to achieve true equality, the answer is yes. But I would tweak things a bit to ensure that talent is being showcased across the board. So instead of eliminating categories because of gender, I would expand the categories. Example: best actor in a comedy. Best actor in a drama. Best actor in a horror film.
I could write about this one forever but my main point is that yes, I do believe it’s time to get rid of best actor and best actress and just have a best actor. What do you think?
P.S. Oh yes, one other change. This year’s event will also honour both movies AND T-V shows.
Have a BIG one!
