Over 440,000 vehicles in North America (including over 20,000 in Canada) are being recalled by Ford to fix issues that can lead to engine fires and doors to open unexpectedly.
The engine fire recall includes over 230,000 Escape SUVs from the 2014 model year, plus the 2014 and 2015 compact Fiesta ST, the 2013 and 2014 Fusion midsize car and the 2013 through 2015 Transit Connect small van. All the vehicles have 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engines.
A lack of coolant circulation has the potential to cause engines to overheat, causing a crack in the cylinder head.
The company has 29 reports of fires in the U.S. and Canada, but no injuries.
Ford is also adding 211,000 vehicles to a past recall to replace faulty door latches. The recall includes the 2014 Fiesta and the 2013 and 2014 Fusion as well as the Lincoln MKZ.
