#InternationalDayOfHappiness was trending on Twitter this morning. I smiled even bigger than I already was, a big grin on my face simply because it’s the first day of Spring!
I feel like my whole world revolves around the words “Happy” and “Timing” (and as I write this, I can hear our sister station, 104.3 Fresh Radio, playing the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams in the background. Typical. Ha!)
I spend my days either being happy, trying to make someone else happy or finding ways to make myself feel happy when I’m not.
I don’t think there is a big secret to being happy. Be thankful for what you have, love and take care of yourself, and then do the same for your family and friends, and your community. Don’t look for happiness in material things, don’t strive for money, image or social status. That is short-term happiness. And understand that you won’t be happy all the time but that happiness is, at the end of the day, a decision.
Growing up, my favourite times were laughing with my sister. I remember thinking, “If I can feel this way for the rest of my life, I’ll be happy.” Lucky for me, I work in an industry where I can wake up every day, go to work and make people smile (or try to!). Whether it’s in my radio job, or doing stand-up comedy, making people laugh is when I feel the best!
When are you happiest?
