We’ve all heard time an time again that sitting is the new smoking, with experts warning that too much time with your tush in the chair or on the couch could be seriously bad for your health. But turns out, there’s some good news. Apparently, it doesn’t take all that much to reduce the effects of all that inactivity.
According to a recently published report, just one hour a day of exercise can reduce the risk of health problems that come with sitting for more than eight hours a day. And we’re not talking rigorous exercise. The study found that between 60- to 75-minutes of moderate activity, like say brisk walking or riding your bike, is a perfect remedy for too much sitting.
The study does note that some forms of sitting are worse than others. For example, sitting at your cubicle while bad isn’t as detrimental to your health as being a coach potato for all hours. The study suggests it’s because when you’re working you’re likely to get up more than if you’re just sitting and watching TV.
Really? They have to take sitting away from us? Do you think you sit too much at work?
