Air Canada is scrambling to explain why they forced a 15-year-old kid flying alone to sleep on the floor of the airport after bumping him off his flight. Hayden Levy was on his way home from Toronto when he was bumped off his flight. No biggie, right? Well not for the adults bumped, they got hotel rooms for the night. But the gate agent told Hayden he was too young for a room, handed him ten bucks for food and sent him away. He slept on the floor at Pearson International Airport (after calling his mom to tell her not to wait up.)
Seems that this is not the first time Air Canada has pulled this stunt. CBC News reported back in 2013 that a 13-year-old boy got the same 10 buck food voucher when the weather forced a flight cancellation. He was on his own in the airport all night while every other passenger on the cancelled flight got a room.
Hayden’s grandpa, Brian Truelove, called and complained, causing Air Canada to offer Hayden an apology and $400 in free travel. The airline says if they had only known how old Hayden was, they would’ve done something different. Truelove swears he wrote Hayden’s age on the ticket, and is calling for wholesale change in Air Canada’s polices.
“If they had only known how old he was..” He’s 15. Didn’t they ask him? Or look at him?
