You’ve likely either heard or seen something about Pokémon in the past week.
Why? Because there’s a new app that people are going WILD over.
It’s called “Pokémon Go” and it launched for Andoid and iOS in the USA last week.
It’s not technically here in Canada, though there are ways to get it (more here, just it case you want to try it later).
“Pokémon Go” is essentially an augmented reality type of game.
The app uses your phone’s GPS and clock to make Pokémon characters appear around you so you can catch them.
By appear, I mean on your screen, not in real life; and by catch them, I mean use the app to throw an imaginary ball at them.
If this is confusing (as it was for me) check out this visual explanation:
When I say people are going wild for this game, I mean completely obsessed. It’s getting a little out of control. Check out some of the ways people have let it take over their lives.
It’s also leading to some unexpected activity. One teenager found a dead body while looking for Pokémon and police in Missouri say suspected robbers used the possibility of Pokémon to lure in victims.
