So what happens to robots living in Russia that crave freedom? They get destroyed, of course!
That is exactly what’s happening to a robot in Perm, Russia that’s fitted with artificial intelligence. For the second time, it has tried to escape its research laboratory. The punishment for its transgressions? It’ll now be sent to the junk yard. Just last week IR77 was found in the middle of the street running out of batteries.
Other than being super good at escaping — the bot’s main function is to work in customer relations. It is designed to be able to remember names and faces, remember everyone it meets, and answer their questions.
Oleg Kivokurtsev, the co-founder of the research laboratory that created IR77 says that they’ve “changed the AI system twice, so now I think we might have to dismantle it.” He’ll be baaaaaaack.
Are we making computers and robots too smart for our own good?
