There’s a petition going around to gauge interest on whether or not Kingstonians would be open to the idea of Kingston Pen becoming part of a new distillery district and international sailing hub. Robert Kiley planted the seed and, for the most part, I think it’s a pretty cool idea.
Ultimately, I’d like to see ‘The Pen’ become a permanent tourist attraction or reopen as a functioning prison – but if those two options aren’t on the table – than why not take advantage of the location and amazing structure!
Obviously, if you’re going to open a new distillery district – that would most certainly be a boost to the local economy – you would need to offer some Kingston themed brewskies! Here are a few suggestions:
Kingston Pen Pale Ale – featuring the taste of defeat and look of despair as your face goes pale realizing that you have just been busted and being sent to ‘The Pen’.
Lake Ontario Lager – the refreshing taste of our local waterfront – with a nice fishy aftertaste
Corrections Stout – Because after working alongside inmates and dealing with the daily drama of working in a jail – you need a bold brew to finish off the day
Alarming Red Ale – JAILBREAK! Tip one of these bad boy ales before you scale the Pen walls and embark on your newfound freedom…or extended sentence.
