Using This Will Help Keep Your Fruit Fresh Longer Kingston, ON, Canada / 96.3 Big FM Jenn Ferguson May 09, 2016 08:50 am BIG on Twitter BIG on Facebook BIG on Soundcloud LISTEN LIVE! There are few things as disappointing as going to grab a banana as a nutritious snack and then realizing it’s completely brown and mushy. Gross. So how do we fix this? One simple step… cover it in silk. via GIPHY When I first read this I pictured myself putting one of my blouses over my bananas. Apparently, that’s not what they mean. Scientists have been testing something called “silk fibroin” to keep bananas and strawberries from getting too ripe. It’s a clear, odorless coating they use on the fruit. Which sounds kind of weird, but they say using it will prevent food waste! I think I’d like it better if it wasn’t odorless… and instead tasted like chocolate. via GIPHY Do you think it’s weird that they’re messing with our produce or are you on board for less food waste?
