A company in the U.S. has been given ethical permission to recruit 20 patients who have been declared clinically dead from a traumatic brain injury, to test whether parts of their central nervous system can be brought back to life.
Scientists will use a bunch of different methods to bring the people back, including injecting the brain with stem cells and other chemicals, as well as shooting lasers at them to stimulate the nerves. The patients who will be a part of this research will have been certified dead and only kept alive through life support. Their bodies are working, but their brains aren’t.
So if – or when? – the patients are brought back from the dead, the scientists say they will be able to erase the old history and restart life again. “Do Not Bring Back from the Dead” is the new “Do Not Resuscitate.”
The CEO of the company says this is another step towards the eventual reversal of death in our lifetime.Haven’t any of these scientists seen a zombie movie? This is exactly the kind of thing that starts trouble.
