If you consider yourself a creative person, you just might have more in common than you think with psychopaths. According to a new study, artists, actors and musicians often share key personality traits with individuals who have “psychopathic traits.”
Based on their findings, it seems that creative people tend to have higher levels of “emotional disinhibition,” which means they don’t care what other people think, they’re impulsive and dishonest — and they aren’t very good at assessing risk. Just like psychopaths!
Now, to be fair, artists aren’t into cruelty like psychopaths are (not that kind, at least). But they are wired to be selfish, which means they’re not always kind to and understanding of those around them.
So while psychopaths are likely to pull the wings off of flies, artists are likely to throw temper tantrums. There’s something to be said for ignoring those around you when doing something new. It’s not pretty, but it’s the way things need to be if things are going to get done.
