As a parent, it is always gut wrenching to hear about a child getting sick or injured in some way. In order to assist in the prevention of disease, I had my kids vaccinated. Some parents decide not to or perhaps just avoid getting vaccinated themselves.
Regardless of where you sit on the issue – each side has their own reasons for choosing to vaccinate or not. I’m no doctor, but the safety of my children is paramount. Based on what I have read, diseases that were formerly ‘eliminated’ have seen a comeback due to those avoiding the needle.
A woman in Australia was among those that did not believe in vaccines. She was healthy, organic and saw no reason to get a shot. Even when she was pregnant, she chose not to be vaccinated. Now, after her child was born – she has changed her stance on the issue.
After passing on the vaccination for whooping cough, she contracted the infection – and unwillingly passed it on to her yet to be born baby. Now the first-time mom is urging other pregnant women to get the vaccine and has spent the last 3 weeks in the hospital with her baby girl struggle: “It’s been a nightmare,” the first-time mom said, describing Eva’s cough as “horror movie” scary. “[She was] coughing to the point of turning blue, flopping in my hands, can’t breathe, running to the hospital.” At one point, her daughter stopped breathing for three minutes and was admitted to the ICU.
'If I could turn back time I would protect myself.' Cormit's baby has contracted Whooping Cough. Watch this clip to hear the first-time mum bravely talk about her decision to opt out of vaccination during pregnancy and how hard it is now coping with her new baby being so unwell.
