Chris Rock did a great job tackling the controversy over this years awards. Here are some of Chris’s best lines of the night.
“Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
“If they nominated hosts, I wouldn’t even get this job. Y’all would be watching Neil Patrick Harris right now.”
“I thought about quitting, I thought about it real hard, but then I realized they’re going to have the Oscars anyway .. the last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart.”
“Why this Oscars? It’s the 88th Academy Awards, which means this whole no-black nominees thing has happened at least 71 other times.”
“We want opportunity. We want black actors to get the same opportunities as white actors. But things are changing. We had a black Rocky this year.”
“Someone told me you’re not allowed to ask women what they’re wearing anymore. You have to ask her more. They ask the men more because men are all wearing the same outfit! If George Clooney showed up with a lime green tux and a swan coming out of his ass, someone would go, ‘What you wearin’, George?’
So how did people feel about Chris – what were people tweeting about?
Ellen DeGeneres: “That was really incredible.”
Oprah Winfrey: @chrisrock “now you Breathe!”
Amy Schumer: “Welp @chrisrock murdered #oscars.”
Rebel Wilson: , “@chrisrock yessss!!!! Good job mate!”
Chelsea Handler: “Quite possibly the best opening monologue to the Oscars.”
Jesse Tyler Ferguson: “I didn’t think Chris Rock would stay this long on #OscarsSoWhite. I am SO glad he is! Genius. Smart. Eloquent. Hilarious.
The Best Actor nod went, not surprisingly, to Leonardo Dicaprio – who used the opportunity to tell everyone how the world is basically coming to an end.
Finally, there were a few performances that took place during the Academy Awards last night – but perhaps the one that was most memorable was the ‘In Memoriam’ tribute with Dave Grohl.
