The 2016 Academy Award Nominations were announced yesterday – some of the notable nominees include: Leonardo Dicaprio and ‘The Revenant’ for best picture / actor, Tom Hardy in ‘Mad Max – Fury Road’ as well as Stallone for Creed. Sure, some impressive performances – but I feel there were some significant snubs this year. Here are the powerful performances that were ignored:
LEO’S BEARD IN ‘THE REVENANT’: Look at this thing! It’s a beast! There are probably little woodland creatures living in it. I mean, do you really think Leo’s performance would have been as good without this hairy mess? I don’t think so.
SLAB OF MEAT: Yes, ‘Creed’ is being praised as a solid boxing flick. I’ve never actually seen it, but if ‘Rocky’ is training him – than you know there was likely a slab of meat being punched in some freezer somewhere.
CHARLIZE THERON’S HAIRCUT: If you watched ‘Mad Max – Fury Road’, you may have found yourself glued to the action, the story, the carnage. Or was it Charlize’s haircut? Admit it, you kept thinking to yourself “I wonder what it feels like? Is it soft? Do you think she’d let me touch it?’. That’s personal engagement people – and it deserves an Oscar nod.
THE MARTIAN: Believe it or not, there is actually a martian in ‘the Martian’ – and it’s not Matt Damon. Check out the screen capture below to see the powerful actor that inspired not only the film but the actual name of the film as well. Even so, Marvin was snubbed.
JOY: A movie where Jennifer Lawrence faces betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love – doesn’t sound very ‘joyous’. Until she notices ‘Joy’ from ‘Inside Out’ and truly feels the happiness she has been yearning for.
