When we rang in 2016, someone was busy plotting to steal a 6 foot tall lighthouse on Wolfe Island. Not sure what someone needs with a lighthouse – nor can I think of how this was actually successful – but it happened.
Strange? Yes. The strangest theft ever? Nope. Check out these odd thefts:
SAND – Yup…sand. Someone once stole a bunch of dirt from a beach in Jamaica. Now, when you’re visiting a place like Sandbanks provincial park in the summer – odds are you end up taking a little sand home with you in your shoe or your shorts. That happens. These guys in Jamaica took home a little more than that – 500 TRUCK LOADS MORE! How does that even happen!?
A BRIDGE – Not just any bridge. A 10 TON STEEL BRIDGE. The thieves apparently dismantled the bridge and 650 feet of track, and presumably, sold it for scrap metal. THe replacement cost was in the millions.
A FRONT LAWN – Imagine, after spending time working on your yard – making it all lush and green – when all of a sudden it disappears. A woman went to go visit her husband with her kids – returned home to dirt. Neighbors did see a landscaping type vehicle working on her yard while she was away – but didn’t think much of it.
A CONDOM MACHINE – A man once stole a condom machine at a pub. He wasn’t being discreet either, in fact, he simply walked out with the machine in front of everyone. Police later recovered the machine along with 48 condoms and 127 quarters
